Kelce on what’s changed since his engagement to Taylor Swift: ‘I got one more ring’

Kansas City Chiefs tight end and three-time Super Bowl winner Travis Kelce made his teammate, Patrick Mahomes, and reporters laugh on Thursday when asked what has changed in his life since announcing his engagement to pop superstar Taylor Swift last week.

“I got one more ring for it,” Kelce said at a news conference in Sao Paulo ahead of Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers. “I would say ever since I’ve been dating Taylor, life has been fun.”

“I love when the lights are bright,” Kelce added, without mentioning whether Swift is going to make an appearance at NeoQuimica Arena for the game.

Neither the NFL nor Corinthians, the soccer club that owns the stadium, has confirmed the superstar will be in attendance. Several Brazilian media outlets have reported that local TV stations are preparing for that possibility.

Kelce said he is already used to having “a lot more eyes” on what he does because of his fiancée and said he now understands what it is to “live life on a high.”

Mahomes chimed in: “It is a dream, dude.”

Earlier, coach Andy Reid said the off-the-field attention hasn’t changed Kelce as a player, and praised the veteran tight end’s efforts to prepare for the season.

“He is working very hard this training camp, and in the offseason, and I know he looks forward to getting started,” Reid said after the Chiefs’ practice session at a club in Sao Paulo’s south end. “(Kelce) is in a good, good place.”

Kelce and Swift were seen in public for the first time since announcing their engagement last week when they attended a college football game between Nebraska and Cincinnati at Arrowhead Stadium. The 35-year-old played for the Bearcats.

Kelce added that he was enthusiastic about playing an international game, despite the 12-hour flight to Sao Paulo. He, Mahomes, and other Chiefs players said they felt the excitement of local fans when they arrived at the airport.

“We are trying to take this game worldwide,” he said. “We have a good following here. That matters, too.”

Reid also said the Chiefs and the Chargers feel “privileged to be an ambassador of sorts” for the sport in Brazil, which is hosting its second-ever NFL game.

“The fans were unbelievable at the airport. They were all decked out in red and yellow. We know it’s going to be a wild night tomorrow. We appreciate the interest,” he said.

Kelce also recognized the local fans while doing a quick impersonation of Mahomes during the news conference.

“Ah, man, it was crazy. It was a lot of fun seeing all the fans there,” Kelce said while imitating Mahomes’ voice. “He had that one coming for telling everyone I didn’t know where Brazil was on a map.”

Last year, the Eagles beat the Green Bay Packers in the same stadium in Philadelphia at the start of a campaign that eventually took them to a Super Bowl victory against the Chiefs.

Graham Greene, 'Dances with Wolves,' 'Green Mile' star, dies at 73

Canadian actor Graham Greene, the Oscar-nominated star of "Dances With Wolves" and "Green Mile," has died at age 73.

His agent Michael Greene, no relation, said in a statement to USA TODAY that Greene died "after a lengthy illness."

"He was a great man of morals, ethics and character and will be eternally missed," Michael Greene wrote.

The Canadian First Nations actor, a tireless advocate for Indigenous representation in Hollywood, first appeared in the 1979 drama series "The Great Detective" and in the 1983 film “Running Brave.”

But Greene's leap to Hollywood came with "Dances with Wolves," playing the wise and compassionate Sioux medicine man Kicking Bird.

The performance earned Greene an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor in 1991. Kevin Costner’s frontier epic racked up 12 Oscar nominations and won seven, including best picture and best actor for Costner.

Greene followed up "Wolves" with major studio roles, such as the regret-filled death row inmate Arlen Bitterbuck in 1999's "The Green Mile," opposite Tom Hanks. In the Western comedy "Maverick" (1994) with Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, Greene played the Native American gambler Joseph.

In the 2009's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," the actor played tribal elder Harry Clearwater. Greene also starred in Taylor Sheridan’s movie drama "Wind River" (2017) opposite Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, which led to more roles in the Sheridan's TV universe — from "1883" to "Tulsa King."

On TV, Greene also appeared on "Northern Exposure," "Longmire" and "Goliath" alongside Billy Bob Thornton. He was cast in the FX’s series "Reservation Dogs" and in Amazon’s "The Red Road."

Greene is survived by wife Hilary Blackmore, daughter Lillie Lazard-Greene and grandson Talo.

Osaka’s reset comes full circle with win over Gauff at the US Open

Naomi Osaka beat Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-1 in 64 minutes on Monday, winning 15 of 16 points on her first serve and all four break chances. It’s her first major quarterfinal since 2021.

NEW YORK -- This was a fourth-round match with unusually large consequences, a highly charged litmus test, a gut-check in real time.

After missing the entire 2023 season on maternity leave, four-time Grand Slam champio Naomi Osaka has expressed frustration with her lack of progress. When would her game regain that ethereal major-winning quality?

Coco Gauff even in the wake of a title at Roland Garros, turned to biomechanics specialist Gavin MacMillan just before the US Open, willing to sacrifice short-term results by playing the long game. Could she rely on her great strengths of speed and competitive fire while making significant adjustments to her serve and forehand?

The answers arrived in only 64 minutes on Monday in Arthur Ashe Stadium as Osaka dropped a decisive 6-3, 6-1 decision on Gauff to advance to the quarterfinals. It’s Osaka’s first major quarterfinal since winning the 2021 Australian Open.

It was reminiscent of the memorable match between the two here six years ago. Osaka, at the height of her powers, dispatched a 15-year-old Gauff 6-3, 6-0 in a third-round match that ended with tears. The difference is that Gauff was seeded No. 3 here and Osaka was No. 23.

“I mean I’m a little sensitive -- I don’t want to cry,” Osaka said afterward. “Honestly I had so much fun out here.

“This is my favorite court in the world, and it means so much to be back here.”

Much has been made of Osaka’s move to coach Tomasz Wiktorowski. And while Iga Swiatek’s former coach has been a boon to her confidence, the difference between the 2024 Osaka and this year’s edition might just be fitness -- and the confidence that brings.

Even earlier this year, she appeared sluggish at times, impatient to end points quickly. Against Gauff, Osaka moved exceptionally well, weathered long rallies and stayed in a visibly positive frame of mind. Her intensity was palpable.

The 32 best early Labor Day sales you won’t want to miss: Apple, Amazon, Lowe’s, REI and more

Every deal I recommend is at least 20% off, such as AirPods, La Sportiva sneakers, and Brooklinen towels.

As you’re wrapping up your favorite summer activities this week, make some time to shop, too. Brands like AmazonHome Depot, and Lowe’s are hosting early Labor Day sales leading up to the holiday on Sept. 1, allowing you to save on products across categories. And yes, shopping early is totally worth it. Once retailers drop prices ahead of Labor Day, it’s safe to assume that they won’t get much lower — plus, shopping early minimizes the chance that the color, style, or size you’re looking for sells out before you add it to your cart.

I’ve covered deals and sales at NBC Select for over five years, and in that time, I’ve perfected the deal-hunting process. I look for items that are 20% off or more and have a minimum 4.0-star average rating. Every single deal I recommend below meets those qualifications, and many items are beloved by the NBC Select staff. I’ll update this list daily leading up to Labor Day.

I keep this 24-ounce stainless steel tumbler on my desk and at home to encourage me to stay hydrated. Its double-wall vacuum insulation keeps beverages cold for hours, in my experience, and it has a flexible silicone straw to drink from, as well as a large handle to grip. The water bottle is tapered at the bottom to fit most cupholders, and you can detach the straw from the lid before throwing everything in the dishwasher.

This hammock is attached to a storage bag you can stuff it into, making it easy to throw in your bag if you’re hiking, camping, or spending time at the park (I even carried mine in my backpack to use on my college campus). It’s lightweight and made from durable, quick-dry, machine-washable nylon. The hammock measures 9 feet by 4.5 feet, so it can comfortably fit one person and hold up to 400 pounds without stretching or tearing, according to the brand. It comes with 9-foot tree straps and carabiners to help you set it up.
